Wine Cellar Restaurant

Nestled at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains in historic Old Town Center, the Wine Cellar Restaurant has been a Los Gatos favorite since 1966. Dine al fresco on the award winning patio and enjoy breathtaking views or venture downstairs for a more intimate experience of warm, golden washed walls and candle-lit booths. A wine theme prevails throughout the interior with custom iron work and etched glass handcrafted by local artisans. Soft lighting luminates from mica and alabaster lamps to create the atmosphere the Wine Cellar is known for - a perfect blend of Old World European Charm and relaxed California ambiance.

Wine Cellar also exudes quite a bit of Los Gatos history…long before the shopping center in which it is housed, the site was something else entirely - Los Gatos’ first one-room schoolhouse, Los Gatos Central School, built in 1875. The restaurant, mainly excavated by hand from beneath what was the school’s auditorium, is one of Los Gatos’ oldest restaurants and the only remaining original tenant of Old Town! The Hauck family has owned the restaurant since 1990 and transformed the “old” Wine Cellar into the upscale venue you see today.

Long known for its Swiss and Gruyere Fondue , the enticing menu also features the freshest seafood including Abalone, Soy Glazed Wild Alaskan King Salmon and Sesame Seared Ahi, hearty pastas such as the signature Tortellini and Cranberry Chicken, All Natural, Free Range Lamb, and All Natural Chicken and Pork. Another prominent feature is the naturally flavorful and tender Painted Hills All Natural Beef -raised with no added hormones, no antibiotics and a 100% vegetarian diet.

Diners often start with Monterey Bay Calamari dressed in just the right amount of Fresh Herbs, Garlic and Parmesan, served crispy with House Made Cocktail Sauce and Fresh Horseradish, the Wine Grilled Artichoke with Yellow Pepper and Sweet Basil Aiolis or the Asian Ahi Tuna Tartare with Soy-Chile Sauce and Wasabi Drizzle. When it comes to salad, there are several choices including the popular Old Town Harvest with Orchard Pears, Apples, Candied Walnuts and Gorgonzola. For entrees, aside from the crowd pleasing cuts of Painted Hills Beef, other top choices are Stuffed Double Cut Pork Chop with Sweet Potato Fries and Succotash, Grilled All Natural Australian Lamb Chops, Duck Confit and Pan Seared Breast, and the ever popular Chicken Picatta.

Portions are abundant but remember to save room for Chocolate Fondue or one of the other homemade desserts such as Pumpkin Bread Pudding or Mixed Berry Puff Pastry!

Saunter down on a Sunday morning from 10:30am-2pm, and enjoy a wonderful Brunch served at your table along with a complimentary Fresh Fruit and Pastry Buffet. Several options to choose from include Cinnamon French Toast, Poached Eggs Hollandaise over Crispy Crab Cakes, Corned Beef Hash with Eggs or Chorizo Scramble with Onions, Jalapenos and Warm Tortillas.

The wine list, handcrafted by one of the owners, features over 100 selections. Predominantly Californian with many Santa Cruz Mountain wines, you will also find a sprinkling of selections from Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and South America. There is something for everyone from the value conscious to the ultimate wine enthusiast. Not in the mood for vino? Have the bartender mix you up something like the Caiparinha made with Brazilian Cachaca, the Cucumber Sake-tini or the Baja Especial made with only Patron Silver, Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice and a splash of Orange Juice.
