The Saratoga Wine Trail
For breakfast, drop by the rustic and very scenic Blue Rock Shoot Cafe. Enjoy delicious coffee, light meals and the best off-street view in town. Then head over to Bell Tower Bistro & Patisserie to get your wine-day picnic. Sandwiches and baked goods top the bill, and there's indoor and outdoor seating when you want to eat now.
It's fun to start at Thomas Fogarty Winery & Vineyards, the northernmost stop on the trail, providing a spectacular view of the foothills and Valley. The delicious wines, gorgeous grounds, and vast valley vista guarantee a memorable tasting experience.
Next, head back toward Saratoga on Skyline Drive, and drop back down Highway 9 toward Saratoga Village. Take a right up to Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards, a ridge-top vineyard and winery specializing in sublime Pinot Noirs. This is a wonderful mountain-side-view picnic place.
Drop down Highway 9, take a left at Pierce Road and then another left at the entrance to the Mountain Winery, originally the vineyard and winery of Paul Masson. It's mountain top location, unique micro climate and well-drained soil produce wine worthy of international acclaim, and a view of the valley that is second-to-none.
You'll find next-door neighbors Cooper-Garrod Estate Vineyards and Garrod Farms Riding Stables. You'll likely see horseback riders as you taste and tour the grounds. Try their raspberry-filled Cabernet Franc and their Viognier, a delight of perfume and peaches.
Back at the top-of-town visit Cinnabar Winery Tasting Room. This mountain-top winery has made it very convenient to experience their powerful Chardonnays and well-known Mercury Rising Bordeaux blend. Right next door you'll find Big Basin Vineyards Tasting Room where you'll find small lots hand-crafted wines from their Estate and other exceptional vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
When it's time for dinner, your Big Basin Way options include many restaurants that host winemaker dinners. Sent Sovi offers monthly wine pairings and host Winemaker Dinners that showcase their signature styles. Sublime dining experiences are also available at The Basin, Casa de Cobre, Mint Leaf Cuisine, Bella Saratoga and Bai Tong Thai Bistro.
