Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient system of healing with its roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine and Buddhist spiritual practice. This unique and complete system of Yoga therapy combines rhythmic massage, acupressure, gentle twisting, deep stretching and meditation. Thai Massage releases tension, increases vitality and creates wholeness of mind, body and spirit.

Lay back on sheets as the very life of your soul is stirred and an holistic and Therapeutic Thai Massage starts at your pace .... deep, and intensely stimulating, invigorating all parts of the body, or a wonderful form of relaxation with correct application of hands over body.

Thai Foot Massage is a relaxing therapy involving gentle foot massage. Sensitive, trained hands detect imbalances elsewhere in the body. By working on these points on the feet, tensions are eased in the whole body.

Benefits of Reflexology:

  • Helps you to relax
  • Improves circulation
  • Relieves tension
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Flushes toxins out of the body

Thai Aromatherapy Massage exploits the ability of the body to absorb therapeutic natural oils extracted from plants. A trained aroma therapist skillfully chooses the combination of oils that helps relax or stimulate you, according to your needs.

Localized therapy is effective treatment for:

  • Upper and lower back pain
  • Neck and shoulder pain
  • Muscle and tendon injuries
  • Migraine
  • Rheumatic pain
  • Asthma
  • Repetitive strain injury

Thai Herbal Massage is a common method of treatment employed in traditional Thai medicine.

The hot herbal compress contains numerous herbs tightly bound in fabric that is steamed until piping hot and firmly rolled. After a full-body, pressure point Thai Massage, the hot herbal compress is pressed or pounded over the entire body in order to soothe muscle and stimulate the vital organs and senses.

Compresses are traditionally applied after Thai Massage to prevent bruising, reduce muscle stress and cure skin conditions.

Benefits of hot herbal compress

  • Relief from general muscular aches, pains and tension
  • Helps to improve and stimulates the lymphatic system
  • Increases blood flow and circulation

The contents of the hot herbal compress are prescribed according to the condition being treated, with some of the most commonly used herbs being:

  • Zedoary (Khamin oi)
  • Turmeric (Khamin chan)
  • Lemongrass (takhrai)
  • Kaffir lime (Makrut)
  • Camphor tree (Naat)
  • Tamarind (Makham)
  • Plai (scientific name : Zingiber cassumar)

Thai massage is a Therapeutic Massage and a traditional treatment for relieving stress and tension, and for the treatment of back pain, stiff neck, shoulder pain, and sports injuries including muscle and tendon strain.

Traditional Thai Massage technique is known as the most holistic type of therapy. It combines modern scientific knowledge of anatomy of physiology with the disciplines of traditional oriental medicine. It employs combinations of rhythmic acupressure, body rocking and deep assisted stretches to relieve muscular tension and enables more blood to be carried throughout the body. A number of gentle techniques are carried out on the floor using the feet, knees, elbows, palms, forearms and thumbs. Treatment generally falls into one of two categories; full body routines and localized therapy and may last between 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Benefits of full body massage include:

  • Alleviation of physical and emotional tension
  • Release and relaxation of muscles and improved flexibility
  • Relief from general muscular aches and pains
  • Muscolo-skeletal realignment
  • Sciatica Pain
  • Improves circulation and stimulates the lymphatic system

What is the WAT PHO temple?

WAT PHO is a famous and beautiful Buddhist temple found in the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, directly adjacent to the Grand Palace. It is also commonly known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, due to the large and remarkable gold-plated Buddha statue which can be found within the temple’s walls.

WAT PHO is also hailed as both the birthplace and the leading school of traditional Thai massage and the place where the very best massage practitioners around Thailand have received their training. Visitors to the temple can learn all about the history of Thai massage; the courtyards are adorned with 19th century murals depicting the principles of Thai massage, detailing the ten energy channels or ‘sen’ lines and a range of yoga poses.

If you plan on visiting Thailand, then a trip to WAT PHO to learn all about (and receive) a massage is good idea.

What is the history of Thai Massage?

Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient, therapeutic massage technique, which dates back more than two thousand years. No one is able to confirm its precise origin, but it is widely believed to have been founded by a renowned healer in Buddhist tradition, Jivaka Komarabhacca (also known as SHIVAGA), a personal friend and physician of the Buddha.

Thai Massage has always been an integral component of Traditional Thai Medicine, a holistic and entirely natural approach to health and wellbeing, which has been developed and practiced over many centuries in Thailand, incorporating exercise, nutrition, medicinal herbs and massage.

Traditional Thai Massage is used to treat a wide range of ailments and to restore the flow of energy through the body. It is a deep, full-body treatment, which involves both the stretching and manipulation of muscles and joints and the application of pressure to certain areas of the body in order to restore energy, working along much the same principles as other ancient healing systems, such as acupuncture.

What are the benefits of Thai Massage?

Thai massage works by releasing blocked energy around vital channels within the body, in order to heal a range of physical and emotional problems. The massage practitioner uses their hands, feet, knees and elbows to apply pressure on these channels, whilst expertly manipulating limbs into yoga-like stretches. Customers who have enjoyed a Thai massage at our Downtown Saratoga day spa usually emerge feeling energized, yet with an inner sense of calm and contentment. Regular treatment can result in greater long-term benefits, which include:

  • Improves blood circulation and movement of lymph fluids
  • Provides greater joint flexibility and range of motion
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Relieves muscle tension and stiffness

  • Promotes calm thinking and creativity
  • Relaxes the mind and improves mental alertness
