Loma Prieta Winery

You may recognize the Loma Prieta name from the famous earthquake of 1989, but the Santa Cruz Mountains also play host to America's premier mountain vineyard area. Located at about 2,300 feet in these mountains, our winery offers spectacular views of Santa Cruz and Monterey. We also offer handcrafted wines produced in small lots and barrel aged in the finest oak. Enjoy!

We produce Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, both from our estate vineyards, and from carefully-tended vineyard sources in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We also source Viognier and extremely rare and limited Pinotage from the Central Valley.

We have been making Pinot from Saveria Vineyard since 2004, and every year has been a Gold Medal Winner. This year is no exception. Flavors of brambly raspberry, apricot preserves, and green figs mix with aromas of strawberries and pine forest floor. A sweet young thing that walks the line between “solid” and “ethereal.”

Our Cabernet Sauvignon has been described as an earthy delight with a perfume of coffee, cloves, and tea roses with undercurrents of mixed pickling spice, black olives, and briar. It also evidences the lovely minerality characteristic of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Loma Prieta Merlot is an inky nectar blossoming with aromas of black currant, blueberry, and sweet cedar. A touch of ripe pomegranate and black tea lead to a long, satisfying finish.

Our label has a very special story. The wonderful painting depicted on it was created especially for Loma Prieta Winery by New Orleans artist Martin LaBorde. It is alive with imagery. For example, the rolling green mountains in the background depict the view of Mt. Loma Prieta as seen from the Loma Prieta Winery. The yellow, red, and orange running beneath the mountains represent the famous 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The flying wine connoisseur in the painting is a recurring character in Martin LaBorde's work, a little magician named Bodo. We invite you to explore the Bee Galleries website at www.BeeGalleries.com to learn more about Bodo and Martin LaBorde's art. Next time you are in New Orleans, be sure to drop by the gallery and say Hi!
